Senior School students practice their critical thinking skills as they explore their post-secondary options. They are guided through the process by our University Placement Coordinators.
Individually, students meet on a regular basis with their counsellor to set goals, discuss course selection, review their Strong Interest Inventory, prepare resumes, research post-secondary options, complete applications and apply for scholarships. Most students submit their applications by late December each year. As part of the process, students in Grades 11 and 12 are encouraged to attend university presentations held on the school campus.

Students in Grade 10 meet with Mrs. Jollymore or Mrs. McLellan about IB course selection and post-secondary options in January of their Grade 10 year.
Applicants, who wish to apply for admission to colleges in the United States, must study for and write SAT or ACT assessments in both Grades 11 and 12. RNS is an SAT test centre in the fall and spring of each year.

Students, whose first language is not English and who plan on studying at a post secondary program in North America, must study for and write the TOEFL / IELTS language assessment as part of the university admission process. Students who have attended high school for more than three or four years, where English is the language of instruction, may be exempt from writing these assessments for some universities. Students should meet with their university counsellor to discuss this. If not exempt, students should write one of these language assessments in both Grades 11 and 12.
