Meet Kaleigh Robertson '20

Meet three-year senior Kaleigh Robertson. Kaleigh is a power forward from Lutes Mountain, New Brunswick. She arrived at RNS in Grade 10 and has been an instrumental piece to the growth of the RNS Prep Girls Hockey program over the course of her three years at the school. Kaleigh is a gritty player who executes the details of the game to near perfection game in and game out. She is a humble student-athlete who is everything you could ever want in a teammate. Enjoy her story!

I’ve been playing hockey since I was six years old. Initially, I got involved in the game because of my Dad. He grew up playing hockey his whole life and I wanted to be just like him. My parents initially signed me up for dance, but they quickly realized that dance was not for me. After that, my parents registered me in hockey and I absolutely fell in love with the game.

My greatest role model in hockey growing up was Talli Warren. We were both female hockey players from Rexton, NB and I grew up idolizing her. Later on, when I made it to Top 40 of Team New Brunswick tryouts as an underage player, Talli was my roommate. During this camp, she took me under her wing and taught me everything I needed to know about the camp. Having her there to support me throughout the process made everything a lot easier and I had a great experience at the camp.

My role on the team is unique because I understand that I am not a fancy player, but I know I am effective in my role and in doing what the team needs me to do. I am confident with my play in the tough areas, especially in front of the net and in the corners. On top of this, I work hard to make plays and create opportunities for my teammates.

If my teammates or coaches were asked to describe me, I think they would say I am trustworthy and compassionate. I am always here to support them if they are having a bad day or need someone to talk to. I think they would also say that I am a hard worker who is driven to get better every day.

My proudest moment so far in hockey has been making the Team New Brunswick Canada Winter Games team in 2019.I worked really hard for four years to make this team and felt a great sense of accomplishment when I received the phone call saying that I made the team and would be traveling to Red Deer, Alberta for the Canada Games. I knew I was not guaranteed a spot by any means, so it made it that much better when I reached my goal for representing my province on the National stage.

My plan for next year is to attend the University of New Brunswick to study Kinesiology. Right now, I am excited to potentially pursue a career as a physiotherapist or chiropractor, but I am also open to new career opportunities in the field of Health Sciences.

If I could give any advice to my younger self, I would remind her not to get caught up in the little things and to have fun and enjoy every moment. Your time at RNS goes by so fast and before you know it, you will be preparing to graduate with your friends!

Coaches Kayla Blackmore and Derek McCallum extend a sincere thank you to Kaleigh for all the contributions she has made to the Prep Girls Hockey program throughout the years. They wish her all the best as she heads to Fredericton to pursue a degree in Kinesiology.

Welcome to the Prep Girls Hockey Alumni Family Kaleigh!
